Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park has one of the highest elephant densities in all of Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation, dotted with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and special place to visit.
Located a few hours drive from the city of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for those traveling on the northern safari circuit to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
Before the rains, crowds of gazelle, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe migrate to the scrubby plains of Tarangire National Park, where the last of the grazing land remains. Tarangire offers an unparalleled opportunity for wildlife viewing, and during the dry season elephants abound. Families of pachyderms play around the ancient trunks of the baobab trees and strip acacia bark from thorn trees for their afternoon meal. Breathtaking views of the Maasai steppe and the southern mountains make a stopover in Tarangire a memorable experience.
