Kilimanjaro National Park

At 5895m, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the most beautiful sites on the continent. It has three main volcanic peaks, Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira.
Above the gently rolling hills and plateaus of northern Tanzania stands the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro, its slopes and glaciers glistening above the clouds. Kilimanjaro, located near the town of Moshi, is a protected area, carefully regulated so that climbers can enjoy it without leaving a trace of their presence. The mountain’s ecosystems are as beautiful as they are varied and diverse. On the lowland slopes, much of the mountain is farmland, with coffee, bananas, cassava and corn grown for subsistence and cash sales. A few large coffee farms still exist on the lower slopes, but much of the area outside the national park has been subdivided into small plots. Once inside the park, a thick lowland forest covers the lower elevations and changes to alpine meadows as the air becomes thinner. Near the summit, the landscape is harsh and barren, with boulders and ice as the predominant features above a breathtaking African view.
